A well pedigreed drachm from Naxos

SICILY. Naxos. Circa 461-430 BC. Drachm (Silver, 18 mm, 3.74 g, 2 h), circa 460. Bearded head of Dionysos to right, wearing wreath of ivy and with his hair tied in a krobylos at the back. Rev. N-A-XI-ON Silenos, bearded and nude, squatting half-left, drinking from a two-handled, stemless cup he holds in his right hand and resting his left hand on his left knee; behind, his animal tail curling out on the ground behind him. Cahn, Naxos, 55 (V40/R46). Jameson 674 (same dies). Rizzo pl. XXVIII, 13 (same dies). SNG Lloyd 1151 (same dies). SNG Lockett (same dies). Beautifully toned and of exceptionally fine style. Somewhat rough, otherwise, good very fine.
